Drawing attributes administration tool

With the drawing attributes administration tool in  dpPower, a system administrator can change the appearance of the map products used in the organization. For example, it is possible to edit the default settings for how lines and texts appear regarding the color, size, scale interval etc. It is also possible to change the way objects appear in the map view regarding their states and how they should be visualized. The drawing attributes administration tool offers many ways to create a standard and homogeneous map style, recognized by all that works with the application.

The drawing attribute tool consists of two editing tools, one for normal drawing attributes and one for alternative drawing attributes. You select tools by clicking the Drawing Attributes or Alternative Drawing Attributes tab in the upper left corner of the window.

To change the drawing attributes requires that the user has the correct role assigned in the database. The role to manage the drawing attributes is EDITATTRIBUTES.

The role is  assigned to the user by using the User manager

Editing drawing attributes

1.Select Administration > Map product > Drawing attributes administration tool.

2.Click on the tab Drawing attributes.

3.Select a product in the drop-down list to the left.

4.Select a product class in the next drop-down list to the left. The component members of the product class, are filtered and sorted after component types that is found under the tabs Graphic attribute, Text attribute, Symbol attribute and Raster attribute.

5.Click on the tab that contains the type of component type that you wish to edit.

6.To edit a drawing attribute value, double-click in an attribute field, enter or select a new value, and click Enter.

7. To save the new settings, click Save. To reset unsaved drawing attributes to previous values, click Reset. Cancel resets changed drawing attributes and closes the attribute editor window.

Settings

Product

Dropdown list of the products created in the application. The product's ID is reproduced in parentheses. Default product is the active map product.

Drawing attributes

Normal drawing manners on components. How a component is drawn in the map is ultimately affected by whether the component has alternative, individual, or dynamic drawing attributes.

Alternative drawing attributes

The alternative drawing attributes are used to control the drawing of a component based on its stage. If an alternative drawing attribute is set for a component, this attribute will take precedence over the normal drawing attributes.

Filter out unused components

Select the check box if you only want to see the components that are actually used in the product, i.e. the component types that are placed in the graphical view.

Components used to display data saved in the DPS format cannot be filtered out.

Product class

Drop-down list of the product classes included in the selected product. Each row in the table corresponds to a component, by double-clicking in a field the selected drawing attribute becomes editable. In the columns, the various attributes can be sorted by right-clicking on them to bring up a list of checkboxes.

Graphic attribute

The selection of components is sorted by component type in the tab. Each row in the table corresponds to a component, by double-clicking in a field the selected drawing attribute becomes editable. In the columns, the various attributes can be sorted by right-clicking on them to bring up a list of checkboxes.

Text attribute

The selection of components is sorted by component type in the tab. Each row in the table corresponds to a component, by double-clicking in a field the selected drawing attribute becomes editable. In the columns, the various attributes can be sorted by right-clicking on them to bring up a list of checkboxes.

Symbol attribute

The selection of components is sorted by component type in the tab. Each row in the table corresponds to a component, by double-clicking in a field the selected drawing attribute becomes editable. In the columns, the various attributes can be sorted by right-clicking on them to bring up a list of checkboxes.

Raster attribute

The selection of components is sorted by component type in the tab. Each row in the table corresponds to a component, by double-clicking in a field the selected drawing attribute becomes editable. In the columns, the various attributes can be sorted by right-clicking on them to bring up a list of checkboxes.

Key field

Light blue key fields identify a unique component with information about the ID number of the product to which the component belongs, the component's plain text name, and the object type-subtype-component type combination that makes the component.

Product specific

Light green fields show the drawing attribute values associated with a specific product. Indicates modified default drawing attributes.

Product class field

White/uncolored fields indicate that the default drawing attribute is unchanged. Default drawing attributes are default values on components that are members of a product class.

Export selected map to calculation program: All product classes and included drawing attribute tables are exported.

Reset

Undo settings and return to original values.

Save

Save changes to the database.

More information

When you change the settings of a drawing attribute, the result is visible directly in the graphics view. In this way, you can try your hand until you get a drawing style that you want to save.

It is also possible to copy the changed drawing attributes by right-clicking on the line you want to copy and selecting the Copy option. Then select the row (that product) to which you want to apply the newly changed drawing attributes, right-click and select Paste.

To reset all drawing attribute values for a component to its default values, select the component row, right-click, and select Use Default Attributes. The component then receives the original drawing attributes of the component type.

To assign the same value to several components at the same time, select and click in the field the desired value, then press the Shift or Ctrl key to select the components that will receive the new value. When the selection is complete, right-click the mouse cursor in the window and click the pop-up menu to confirm.

Use ctrl+c and ctrl+v to copy/paste cell values directly into the cells of the tables.

Edit color attributes

1.When editing color attributes, the dialog Choose a color opens.

2.Select a color from the palette under Basic colors.

3.Adjust RGB values and transparency in the RGB and Transparency tabs.

4.If you want to use the component's original color, select the Use predefined color check box.

5.To save the new settings press OK. To reset not saved settings, press Reset. Cancel closes the dialog window without saving the settings.

More information

It is possible to apply a new drawing attribute to several components at the same time, instead of repeating the same change on several components one by one: change a drawing attribute on a component, for example primary color. Then select additional components (using the Ctrl and SHIFT keys), right-click and select Apply New Value Columnwise?. All selected components now have the same primary color as the template.

To restore a drawing attribute or one/several lines to default appearance, right-click and select one of the options Restore rows to default attributes or Restore cell to default attributes.

Set default attribute to selected rows

Resets the selected rows (components) to the standard appearance.

Set default attribute to cell

Resets the selected cell (drawing attribute) to the standard appearance

If you want to see only the components that are actually used in the product class (ie the component types that are placed in the graphical view), select the Filter out unused components check box in the upper right of the tool window.

Key fields (light blue colored fields) cannot be edited.

Alternative drawing attributes

Alternative drawing attributes are added into the database by Digpro using scripts or directly in the application. Users with administrative rights can modify the drawing attributes using the drawing attributes administration tool.

Add alternative drawing attributes

1.Open the drawing attributes administration tool and go to the tab Alternative drawing attributes.

2.Select what type of attribute that you wish to add by selecting a tab and use the button Add. A dialog box opens.

3.Enter the information that should be valid for the new row and use the button Save. The new row has been added and is saved directly in the database.

4.Edit the new row with the attributes that you wish to use e.g. symbol font, line color etc. and save the changes by using the button Save.

It is not possible to change the field Product ID (PRODUCT). All the other fields are edited by double-clicking in an attribute field, selecting or entering a new value, and pressing Enter.

More information

By using right click on a row it is possible to copy, paste and delete current rows.

The alternative drawing attributes are used to control drawing of a component based on its state. If there are alternative drawing attributes for the component, these alternative attributes applies before the drawing attributes. An example of this could be that all objects of type Opto pipe are going to be drawn with pointed line style, if they have the state Destroyed. Or, all objects of type ODF are going to be drawn with a green color if they have the state Under construction.

You can set a variety of alternative drawing attributes, which may more or less regulate details. See example below for alternative drawing attribute settings. An example of this could be that you would like to draw a route with yellow color, continuous line, but if the route has the state Destroyed, the alternative drawing attribute for this state should be applied. If you would like to draw all objects of the type Route with a violet color, when the type is changed from Ground to Tunnel even if the object has a state Destroyed, the alternative drawing attributes should be applied.

Some of the drawing attributes can be set on individual components directly in the database. These attributes are hence always valid regardless of the general drawing attributes for the component type.

Recommended draw order values

Draw order values indicate where in z-direction maps, map objects and components should be drawn. Since maps, map objects and components with high draw order values may overlap components with low draw order values, we recommend:

That background maps are assigned lower draw order values.

That smaller map objects are assigned higher draw order values than larger ones.

That polygons are assigned lower draw order values than symbols, symbols lower than lines, and lines lower than text.

We also recommend:

That imported maps and data are assigned negative draw order values

That map objects are assigned positive draw order values

That draw order values for the map object's component types are created by adding them to the map objects' draw order values

See examples in the tables below.

More information

For raster images, for example orthophotos and overview maps, you can only adjust the drawing attribute Drawing order, i.e. the level in the layer order that the image should be in. The order is in ascending numerical order, where "0" (sometimes also negative values) is at the bottom/back of the layer order.

Example: Image A is above Image B, if A has Z value "5" and B has "0".

1.Select one or more graphic components in the map tree.

2.Right-click and select Show/change drawing attributes.

3.Adjust optional drawing attributes. Click Apply to apply the changes to the map.

The Show/change drawing attributes option opens a dialog box that allows you to temporarily change the appearance of the component in the map. Grayed out attributes cannot be edited. Click Apply to activate the changes. Click Reset to reset changed drawing attributes to default values.

If changes to the drawing attributes do not take effect, check settings for how changed and locked components should be displayed in the Settings window, which you can reach under Settings > Change Settings. These settings have priority over the temporary changes you make in the map tree.
