Edit symbol

Edit an existing symbol in the symbol editor

1.Start the Symbol editor by selecting Administration > Symbol editor.

2.The symbol fonts are opened automatically when you log in and are displayed to the left in the application window. (It opens as a sidebar and it is also possible to use F9 to show/hide). The name of the symbol font and the amount of symbols that the font contains are presented in the application window.

3.Select the symbol font you wish to edit and the symbols that belongs to the symbol font will be loaded in the graphical view. Note that the symbols in the Symbol editor are shown in their original appearance. The symbols that should be used and how they look in the map is defined by the system administrator in the Drawing attributes administration tool.

4.Select Tools > Edit symbol or use the button in the toolbar.

5.Select the symbol you wish to edit. The new window Edit symbol is opened. The symbol that should be edited is displayed in the graphical view

6.Select one of the 11 editing alternatives in the menu Edit > Component or use the buttons in the toolbar You can edit symbols by:

a.Moving, rotating, delete or copy component

b.Add, move or delete vertices

c.Extend a vertex or change lines to arcs

d.Create hole and remove hole from polygon

7.To save the symbol use File > Save or use the button in the toolbar. The dialog Save symbol is opened:

Set Symbol font and Symbol id and use the button Save. The symbol is added to the symbol table. You can check the result by loading the font and display the ingoing symbols.

Note! Save the symbol with a font name that describes the name of your organization and in what map product the symbol should be used. Thus ensures that the user defined symbols will not be overwritten during an upgrade. This also makes it easier for administrators to keep track on the customized symbols!

 

Name example for a symbol font:

”EDM_ELSCH”

The symbol font name describes the symbol that the customer Electricite de Mozambique (EDM) uses in their schematics for electricity (ELSCH).

Tip: Specify the symbol id as well and use a name that describes the use of the symbol such as Switch or Manhole etc.
