Decision points

Decision points can be inserted in a workflow of an existing task or in a task template. Decision points are used to steer the progress of a workflow, in situations where different alternative routing exists. This could for example be to end a workflow by a documented decision, continue as planned or repeat parts of the previous workflow as a result of a decision.

Operationally, decision points are available both in Organizer and in Organizer Webmap. One can therefore, via a mobile device, make decisions in the field to control a task depending on observations at a workplace.

To add new decision points to an existing workflow, the user need to have access to Organizers administration tool in the south panel. It is only from this environment the icon for adding new decision points ( ) is available. It is not possible to add new decision points from the user interface in the "normal" Organizer.

1.In the east panel, select the Workflow tab.

2.Press Add object and select New decision point . The dialog Select decision point type opens.

3.Select type and press OK.

4.Fill in the desired information and dates.

5.Press Save.

Even if it is possible to add new decision points to existing tasks, this is not the usual way of working. The habit is that decision points are built and configured in task templates, to be used when creating new tasks from these templates. Decision points are normally part of standardized workflows and progress sequences which the organization has decided to implement as its working standard.

Decision point types are defined in the code list DSG – DEC_POINT_TYPE_CL. Here, the names of the decision points to be used in the different workflows are entered. The decision point type names are only place holders. The same decision point type can be re-used in different workflows. A recommendation is however to name the decision points according to the situation in the workflow it should serve, for example Dec_Expropriation, Dec_Approve_Design etc. Its function in the workflow will then be easier to understand and reporting will be clearer.

The code list for decision point types is shared across all applications that uses Organizer. In a multi-application environment, an administrator can decide for which applications a decision point type should be available, see section Decide which applications an item type should be available in.
