Pan

Use the Pan tool to move the map in any direction and view a different area of the map.

Select Window > Zoom > Pan from the menu bar, or click in the toolbar. You can also activate the Pan tool by pressing and holding the Shift key on your keyboard.

Once you’ve activated the Pan tool, the pan icon appears in place of the mouse pointer.

To pan the map, left-click and hold the button while moving the map in any direction.

Zooming in Pan Mode

If you have activated the Pan tool, you can zoom in on the map by left-clicking and holding the button while moving the mouse forward or backward to zoom in or out, respectively. When zooming in pan mode, the zoom stops at even map scales, such as 1:2000, 1:3000, 1:4000, and so on, which can make printing easier.

If you have activated a tool in the application—for example, while drawing a map object on the map—you can activate the Pan tool at any time by holding down the Shift key. When you release the Shift key, the previous tool is reactivated, and you can continue with what you were doing.
