When you place a line component on the map, you can right-click to select different placement and drawing modes.
These features are used, among other things, to create straight lines, arcs, parallel objects, and lines with a defined direction or length.
The following options may be available:
•Line
•Circular Arc
•Circular Arc, Fixed Radius
•Parallel Copy
•Parallel copy of entire object
•Angular Line Placement
•Place Line at Right Angle
•Place line horizontally/vertically, auto-alignment
•Angular and/or length-based line placement
•Copy other geometry
•Enter coordinates
•Place relative to
•Geodesy
•Delete last point
•Cancel
Function |
Description |
Line |
Used to place straight line segments by specifying breakpoints on the map. |
Circular Arc |
Used to create an arc between two control points.
After the control points have been placed, the shape of the arc is defined with the mouse pointer before the next control point is placed. |
Circular Arc, Fixed Radius |
Used to create an arc with a specified radius. The radius is specified before the next control point is placed on the map. |
Parallel Copy |
Used to create a new line segment parallel to an existing object. This function is used, for example, when new lines, cables, or routes need to follow the same route as an existing object. |
Parallel Copy Entire Object |
Works the same way as Parallel Copy but copies the entire length of the object in a single step. |
Angled Line Placement |
Used to place a new line segment at a specified angle relative to an existing line. |
Place Line at Right Angle |
Used to place a new line segment perpendicular to the previous segment. |
Place Line Horizontally/Vertically, Auto-Connect |
Used primarily for schematic maps where lines are to be drawn only horizontally or vertically. The feature automatically connects the line segments. |
Line placement by angle and/or length |
Used to create line segments with a specified angle, length, or a combination of both. |
Copy other geometry |
Used to create a line object by copying the geometry from an existing object on the map. |
Enter Coordinates |
Opens a dialog box where coordinates can be entered manually for each breakpoint. |
Place Relatively |
Used to place the component relative to another object on the map. Distance and reference point can be specified in the dialog box. |
Geodesy |
Opens the tool for geodetic placement.
See also: Geodesy. |
Delete Last Point |
Removes the most recently placed breakpoint. |
Cancel |
Cancels the current placement of the object. |
For more information about placement methods, see the sections Placing objects using coordinates, Placing objects relative to other objects, and Geodesy.
