Progress conditions are used in a tasks workflow and can be defined for Activities, Decision Points and individual Decisions. Its basic function is to allow or prevent the completion of an activity or decision point. This can thus prevent subsequent point(s) from starting, i.e. that the workflow is driven forward.
In many situations, moving forward in a workflow means that control passes from one handling officer to another. It is not uncommon for these managers to be found in different parts (departments) of an organization. When such a transfer of responsibility is made (through predefined activity managers or decision makers), one often wants to ensure that certain measures have really been carried out or that certain information necessary for further processing has been attached to the assignment. By defining and configuring progress conditions, it is possible to get the system to make such checks, so that the specified prerequisites for moving forward in the workflow are met. If this is not the case (e.g. that agreed information is missing), the system does not allow an activity to be closed, or that a certain decision in a decision point may be carried out.
