Generate...

Generate a new legend. When the Generate function is activated, the new application window Legend opens. The new window has many functions that work exactly the same as in the regular application window and the interface is the same. The feature allows the user to design their own legend which can then be added to the free plotting tool or to a drawing frame.

The legend is temporary objects that are in your changeset so the objects must be actively saved to the changeset. The objects generated in the legend must then be posted to determine whether the legend is to be used in free plotting or for drawing frames. To post the changes made to the legend, it must be done in the regular application window via File > Post. It is not possible to post its legend from the Legend application window.

Create new legend

1.Select Administration > Legend > Generate... A dialog opens with two radio buttons.

2.Select the option that fits your legend.

3.Press OK. The Legend window opens.

4.Create the legend.

5.Select File > Save Legend. The legend can then be inserted directly into free plotting or inserted into a drawing frame.

Explanation

From active view

The product classes from the active view will also be visible in the generated legend

Nothing

The product classes will not be visible by default, this means  you select what should be visible in the legend through the application window.

If many components are lit at the same time, for example an entire map product, it takes a long time to load the legend. When the editor opens, a warning window will appear telling you about the number of components. Once inside the editor, no warning is displayed.

In the section Product class title and Description, you can select:

Size

Style

Color

Capitalization

Check the Show all checkbox in the Product class title section if you want all product class titles to always be displayed, regardless of whether you are showing or hiding them from the map product tree. If the checkbox is unchecked, it means that product class titles are off by default for all but can be shown or hidden from the map product tree.

Check the Show all rows checkbox in the Description section if you want to display all description rows when there are many OSCs that have the same appearance. If the checkbox is unchecked, it will calculate how many rows can fit vertically in a cell, and only as many rows as can fit will be displayed, while the rest are ignored.

In the Description format section, you select Subtype name - Component type name to create names with both the subtype and the component, or Subtype name to create names with only the subtype.

In the Layout tab you find the settings for the format of the legend such as cell dimensions and symbol size. The symbol size can manually be change by using the sliders Smallest, Standard and Biggest.

In the Placement tab you select background color to either white or transparent. Legend placed in a drawing frame always has a transparent background. Place a background surface in the drawing frame for a white background.

Show cell boarders

Select the checkbox in order to show the cell boarders in the legend. The cell boarders can be a good support when the legend is handled and is not displayed when the legend is placed.
