The mapping import tool is used to link columns in a data file with the corresponding fields in the system. The function simplifies the process of loading data and ensures that the information ends up in the correct place during import.
Instead of manually creating a mapping file, where each field had to be defined by hand, the mapping can be created directly in the interface without the risk of formatting errors.
This tool serves as an alternative to the existing method of selecting mapping file(s) during CSV import. The tool makes it possible to add the CSV mapping file to dpSpatial and, by adding import settings, let the application convert the import file into a readable mapping file.
1.Select File > Import > Generate CSV Mapping File....
2.Press Select to add the data file.
If the data file you add has been mapped previously, the program will ask whether you want to use that mapping again. Select Yes to have it mapped automatically. |
3.Under Import Settings, enter the import settings. For more information about the different import formats, see section Import format for CSV files.
4.Enter information on how the data should be imported by specifying:
a.Object type – Which objects should be created.
b.Subtype – Which subtypes should be created.
c.State – The state in which the objects should be placed.
5.Press Map columns. A dialog box will open. Here, you choose which column should be mapped to which field in the attribute form:
a.Select a row under Source file data fields , then search for and select the field it should be mapped to under Fields/components.
b.Press Map. The mapping will become visible in the Mappings section.
c.When you are finished, press Close.
6.In the Preview section, you can see how the various settings made under Import Settings will be interpreted during import.
7.Press
a.Save to preserve the mapping between sessions, or
b.the downward arrow to generate the mapping file and place it in the import window:
i.Press Save Mapping File and Import CSV. The Import dialog will open, and the generated file will be added under Format.
ii.Press Import.
