The line segment automatically stops at an intersecting line segment. If you wish to extend or shorten the line segment to this point, use the left mouse button to confirm.

To disable that the function automatically stops, click and hold down the button Ctrl when using the function.

1.Select Edit > Component > Extend vertex.

2.Left-click near the line segment to be extended/shortened. The selected component is highlighted with the color for highlighted objects.

3.Move the cursor to the desired position and left-click to confirm. Cancel the function by right-double-clicking.

Intersecting line segments

Extend vertex can also be used to extend a line so that it intersects with another line (or a projected extension of another line).

1.First set snap mode to Intersecting lines.

2.Left-click on the line segment you want to extend (as described above).

3.Snap to the line segment that the extension is to intersect. (To activate the snapping function, hold down the Alt key when you left-click on the line segment.)

4.Snap one more time the line to be extended. A cross indicates where the lines will intersect.

5. Left-click to accept the intersection , or right-click to cancel.

Press N or E on your keyboard to lock the new vertex vertically or horizontally (Northing and / or Easting coordinates). Right-click repeatedly to enable/disable the function.
