Network calculation data

Cable data

Cable data is used by Analyzer when calculating line impedance, voltage drop, short-circuit values, current loading and other cable-related calculation results.

The data is stored on two levels:

Cable attributes, which are stored on each cable object.

Cable codelists, which contain the rated electrical characteristics for each cable type.

Each cable object is linked to a cable type through its type attribute. During calculations, Analyzer combines the object-specific attributes with the rated values from the selected cable type.

 

Cable attributes

Each cable object has a Line type value. This value links the object to one row in a cable codelist. The cable object also contains object-specific data such as phase code, laying type, correction factor, measured length, graphical length, additional length and parallel number.

Measured length is normally used when it exists. If measured length is missing, reports may use graphical length, sometimes together with additional length. The exact length expression can differ between reports, so missing or incorrect length data can affect report values and calculation results.

 

Cable codelists

Cable types are maintained in separate codelists depending on the type of cable or line:

ELOHCBLTYPE_CL - overhead cable types

ELUNINSLINETYPE_CL - overhead uninsulated line types

ELINSLINETYPE_CL - overhead insulated line types

ELUGCBLTYPE_CL - underground cable types

The same cable type number can exist in more than one codelist. Therefore the cable type is interpreted together with the cable object's component type. Make sure that the cable type is added or updated in the correct codelist.

Cable type codelists contain the rated electrical characteristics used in calculations, such as current ratings, conductor data, resistance, inductance, capacitance and temperature data.

The electrical constants are given per kilometre. Reports that show values for a specific cable object multiply these constants by the cable length.

Changes to cable type data affect calculations and reports for all cable objects using that cable type.

 

Cable-related reports

Several reports can be used to review and verify cable data and cable attributes. See section Cable reports for a description of reports found from Query tool > Reports.

To view cable calculation results, open Analyzer > Results/Administration, right-click a completed calculation and select Show reports. In the report window, right-click the relevant station and select Line report. For unbalanced calculations, select Line report, unbalanced. The report includes cable type, calculated length, load current, relative load current, trip times and fuse-related information. In unbalanced calculations, the corresponding cable report also shows phase-specific currents and relative currents.
