The most common use case for this tool is as part of data imports from other sources, such as CSV or shape imports. The tool operates on a selection of candidate parent objects and a selection of candidate child objects. The types of objects for both categories are defined by the user, and the selection is made by placing a polygon on the map.
1.In the menu bar, select Tools > Create parent links between point objects. A side panel opens.
2.In the drop-down lists, select Object type and optionally select Subtype.
3.Press Select components.
4.Place a polygon in the map to select all symbols representing the chosen types. For each child candidate object, the tool finds the closest parent candidate within the tolerance limit.
5.Fill in a Maximum distance (m) to set the tolerance for how close a parent and child object must be to establish a parent link between them, and press Match selected. A table opens. Depending on the status of the selected data, the table will have a set of tabs that may include:
oSelected parent objects without a matching child
oSelected child objects without a matching parent
oMatching objects already linked
oMatched objects
6.In the tab for matched objects, press Create parent links to make the matched children objects a child to the parent.
