All information in the system is stored as objects in the database. Most objects are created by placing them in a graphical view, such as a map or a diagram.

When an object is created, you can simultaneously specify information about the object through its attributes. The attributes describe the object’s properties and are used to store business-related information.

 

In addition to placing objects in a graphical view, there are other ways to create objects:

•Copy and paste - create a new object based on an existing object.

•Generate content - certain object types can generate underlying objects or content, such as fibers in an optical cable.

•Objects without graphical representation – certain object types are not displayed on the map or in the diagram. Instead, these are created by entering attributes in a form and can then be linked to other objects. Examples of object types without graphical representation include Service (dpCom) and Subscriber (dpPower). However, this object type can be linked to objects that do have graphical representation.
