Relation

This section describes the various features and tools that you can use to work with relations. In dpCom, as you know, a new cable object is created between each event with the cable, for example when you split and splice a cable. With Network Relations, a support is introduced to be able to logically group such cables which, for example, together form a line cable in the network. The cables can be grouped into "families", "groups", "main cable", or according to other collective names that best describe how the included cable objects relate to each other and to other cable groupings in the network. A cable object can be part of several different network relationships, and it is possible to arrange different network relationships in hierarchical structures, where a network relationship is part of an overlying network relationship, etc. With the help of the map support, performance routes made up of the included cables in network relationships can be highlighted in the graphical views.

Edit a network relation

To change details, link objects to a network relation, or specify how it is linked to other network relations, you must first open the network relations attribute form. If the object has network relation, the Network relation tab will be marked with an asterisk *. You reach created network relations by searching for them in the Query Tool (F11) or under the Search tab in the sidebar (F9). It is also possible to place a text for the network relation and thus reach it directly in the position map.

Search for a network relation

1.Under the Search tab in the Query Tool or in the Sidebar, select Network Relation in the Relation folder.

2.Enter search criteria (ID and Relation type) and press Search.

3.In the result table, right-click on the network relation and select Show/Change attributes to open the Attribute form.

Create a text in the graphical view

1.Search for the created network relation via the search function, see above.

2.Right-click the network and select Place > Component. Select the type of position desired, in the position map and/or in the network diagram. Place the text in an appropriate place.

Link the network relation to other network relations

The attribute form shows whether the current network relation is linked to other network relations. Linking network relations to each other makes it possible to group the network's cables according to a specific hierarchy and network type.

Example: In a network relation of type "Family", there may be a set of network relations of type "Main" and a number of relations of type "Group", where Main is used to group cables along a central routing path, and Group is used to logically group cables that form branches from the same.

Settings

Remove link

Delete link to a selected network relation.

Only the link to the selected network relation is deleted, not the network relation itself.

Link new object

Opens the Create Link search window.

Search for the object that you want to link to the current relation and press OK.

Create new network relation (In the Nested network relations tab)

Opens a new attribute form and allows you to create a new parent or parent network relation.

Link an opto or copper cable to a network relation

Use the attribute form to link opto and/or copper cables to the current network relation:

1.Open the network relation attribute form.

2.Press Link New object.

3.Search for a cable in the Create Link window that opens.

4.Select the cable and press OK. The cable is now linked to the network relation, as shown by its appearance in the attribute form.

Press Remove Link to remove a selected cable from the network relation. The cable object itself will not be deleted, only its link to the current network relation.

Create link to network relation via the cable attribute form

It is possible to create and delete links to network relations in the attribute form for e.g. opto and copper cables. Open the Network Relation data tab and use the functions Remove Link , Link to overlaying network relation and Create New Network Relation to determine which network relation(s) the cable should be part of. See the introductory section for instructions on how to create and remove links to a parent network relation.
